El Matador Mexican Restaurant: Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Bloomfield, NJ

The food was really good!!! I had the pozole and loved it! Everything my table had looked and tasted fresh. Definitely recommend you try this place out!

Authentic Mexican cuisine. Great ambience with how they decorated the restaurant. They also have a large patio with tables in the back. I usually get the steak taco platter and my wife gets the fish in like a white sauce with rice and salad. Outstanding flavors. Pro tip get extra white sauce on the side for the tacos with squeeze of lime. BOOM!

I stumbled upon this restaurant while studying at Shake and Pour bartending school down the road. It’s turned into my weekly spot before class starts, and the food never disappoints. The portions are great with affordable options on the menu. The food isn’t greasy (sometimes an issue with some Hispanic cuisine) and it’s all super fresh. My go-to is the chicken taco platter with tres leches for dessert. The servers are very attentive, even if you choose to sit outdoors. I will be coming back, even when my class ends!

El Matador is my go to place for lunch whenever im in the area. Usually whenever I end up in the area, its always great to our server Emily. She has an amazing personality and is always a pleasure.

My initial review was 5 stars, and while the food is still delicious with great flavor, their portions have decreased. Their loaded nachos were the best, use to fill the container to the top. Now, it’s half the portion with barely any ground beef. Their Tacos Dorados platter with rice and beans only comes with 3 tacos, not 5 tacos as depicted in the menu’s photo, which is a bit misleading. I really love their food though, I guess my only complaint is I’m not getting enough of it I understand the current inflation requires our favorite restaurants to increase prices, I hope they don’t ever compromise quality and portion.

The best Mexican restaurant in the area, hands down. We ordered enchiladas, tamales, tostados and several side items. The food was uniformly well presented, fresh and well prepared. The service was excellent. Highly recommended!

I haven't been here since pre-COVID; however, my partner has been stopping by and told me about their green chile enchiladas. We went there this past weekend, and they were as good as he said they were. We had shrimp (which was $2 more) and it came with beans and rice. The tortillas were thicker so perhaps they're homemade? I had horchata and got a free refill (thank you!) and we ordered dessert to go. The tres leche cake was very yummy although not as much as a fan of the flan. Look forward to visiting again!

Good authentic Mexican food. My grilled chicken and pulled pork empanadas were a little bland but nothing too bad. Good experience and good prices
